CURRICULUM VITAE
Education
Originally, Cathy studied oil landscape painting with the late Joe Novak, and she shared an art studio with other photorealist landscape painters. Novak's work there drew the attention of Timothy Rub, currently director of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and former director of the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College. Rub became the moving force behind Novak's 2002 Hood Museum exhibition "Joe Novak: Paintings, 1993-1999". Joe encouraged Cathy to take risks, express herself, and not necessarily follow the status quo. Consequently, experimentation became a large part of her work. Cathy has also trained with many established artists, including esteemed Australian sculptor Jen Mallinson, who taught Cathy the beauty and importance of texture. Danielle Bartlett, an abstract artist mentored Cathy to follow her intuition and trust her inner voice, while allowing universal energy to influence her paintings. Theo Harasymiw, an established visual artist, encouraged her to utilize the well of creativity inside of her.
